With Spring just around the corner, why not join Kelly Whyte for a day to explore the beautiful colours of this glorious season.
Kelly will walk you through the process of landscape painting using techniques such as composition, value, colour, edges and detail. You will create your own landscape painting using oil paints.
A reference photo and demonstrations will be provided by the instructor, with class critiques occurring throughout the workshop.
Materials:
- A rectangular canvas that fits your comfort level (18” x 24”, 20” x 24”, 24” x 36”, etc.). The canvas can be prepared ahead of time by applying a neutral colour such as yellow ochre, burnt sienna, grey, etc..
- Canvas paper (9” x 12”)
- An assortment of oil paints including:
- Ultramarine Blue
- Cerulean Blue
- Cadmium Red
- Alizarin Crimson
- Cadmium Yellow
- Magenta
- Sap Green
- Yellow Ochre
- Burnt Sienna
- Titanium White
- Any other favourite colours
- Various paint brushes of all sizes and shapes, palette knife
- Paper towels
- Medium -- Linseed Oil, Poppy Seed Oil, or student’s choice [NOTE: At Studio 201, we use low-odor or odorless mineral spirits alternatives]
- Notebook/Sketchbook
- Pencil
- Sharpies (black and red)
