W2411: Birgitta Macleod - Palette Knife Techniques for Acrylic Painters

Learn the many wonderful techniques and textures you can do with a palette knife and acrylic paints with instructor Birgitta MacLeod. In just one afternoon! You learn various application methods and complete a small painting using all our new skills. No previous experience is required.

SUPPLY LIST:

PAINTS
Student grade (Liquitex Basics; Demco) or artist quality acrylics.  Do not use folk art paints or paints purchased from a dollar store, as the quality is too poor. 

You will need the primary colours, plus black, white and brown.  Here is a suggested list to get started:

  • Primary Yellow or Cadmium Yellow Medium Hue
  • Primary Blue or Phthalo Blue
  • Primary Red or Cadmium Red Medium Hue
  • Titanium White
  • Black
  • Burnt Umber

Bring any other acrylic paints you may already have.  If you are missing anything I am happy to supplement from my supplies at no extra charge.

SUPPORTS
1 Canvas, size 12 X 16 or 14 by 18 or is good for this half-day class.

TOOLS:
Palette knives will be supplied, but if you have your own, bring them along.

  • One small or medium brush.
  • 1 pad of disposable palette, or foam plates
  • A rag or roll of disposable blue shop cloths
  • Water container
  • Apron
  • You do not need an easel for this class

Birgitta Macleod

Birgitta MacLeod is one of the founding partners of META4 Gallery in Port Perry (and formerly, of Peterborough). As a painter she loves colour and texture, often incorporating paper and collage into her pieces.
