W2410B: Andrew Sookrah - Contemporary Landscape
Join artist Andrew Cheddie Sookrah for an exciting exploration of the vibrant colour, dynamic form, holistic structure, depth and texture that is indicative of an Impressionistic Contemporary Landscape painting; their interconnected relationship with objects and the surroundings they are in.
Leveraging the attributes of this versatile medium while working from a supplied reference image, you will continue your exploration of how to observe, interpret and move beyond the obvious to develop a vibrant painting in your own voice, using confident and informed brushstrokes. You will refine your ability to create impactful design and composition, extracting only necessary information from your reference. Working from one of Andrew’s images taken on his extensive travels, you will create a painting with that WOW factor… Basic drawing techniques, perspective, composition, colour, texture, use of material will be explored.

OR, a basic list (This list is for artists who have considerable experience in colour mixing, while we will cover some of that, the bulk of our time in this workshop will be spent on the other painting techniques): Cobalt Blue, Phthalo Blue, Pyrrole Red, Hansa Yellow, Jenkins Green, Teal, Dioxazine Purple, Payne's Grey, Mars Black, Titanium White, Zinc White.
SURFACE: Stretched canvas or board, 12" x 18" or larger prepared with Acrylic gesso.
OR canvas sheets (available in pads for sketching and practice)
OR watercolour paper (300 lb, with or without gesso)
BRUSHES: A variety of long handled acrylic brushes including several different sizes of flats, filberts and rounds. (As well as old, ratty brushes, they will be used for texturing)
