Valarie Kent

Valerie Kent, B.F.A., B.Ed., M.F.A. is a contemporary visual artist, known for vibrant and evocative works exploring themes of identity, memory, and human experience.  Born in 1947 in Tokay, Hungary, Kent grew up surrounded by the rich multicultural mosaic of Montreal and Toronto, which profoundly influenced her artistic development.  She pursued her education at Concordia University where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.  Kent continued her Master of Fine Arts at the prestigious University of Iowa Fine Arts Program and a Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Toronto.

Kent's journey began with a strong foundation in traditional painting techniques, but she quickly expanded her practice to include printmaking, various mediums and mixed media.  Her work often reflects a deep engagement with personal and collective narratives, inviting viewers to contemplate their own stories and experiences.  This is exemplified through her innovative use of brilliant colour, texture, and form.  Kent creates immersive environments that challenge perceptions and evoke emotional response.  This is coupled with her love of nature, often painting en plein air and studio landscapes.

Kent has exhibited internationally as well as locally at Gallery Q, Gallery on the Lake and the Parrott Gallery.  She has taught at various institution and at artist retreats in France, Italy and Canada, and has judged art shows throughout Ontario.
